Drill Bit Information
Drill bits are cutting tools used to create cylindrical holes. Bits are held in a tool called a drill, which rotates them and provides torque and axial force to create the hole. Specialized bits are also available for non-cylindrical-shaped holes.
The shank is the part of the drill bit grasped by the chuck of a drill. The cutting edges of the drill bit are at one end, and the shank is at the other.
Drill bits come in standard sizes, described in the drill bit sizes article. A comprehensive drill bit and tap size chart lists metric and imperial sized drill bits alongside the required screw tap sizes.
The term drill may refer to either a drilling machine or a drill bit for use in a drilling machine. In this article, for clarity, drill bit or bit is used throughout to refer to a bit for use in a drilling machine, and drill refers always to a drilling machine.

Ultra Bor™ Super Premium
Special Hi-Molybdenum tool steel
Substantially longer cutting life
Nitro-carburized flute has increased Rockwell hardness & will out perform cobalt
Cuts harder material
The flatter point takes a smaller chip. This allows drilling Into material with hardness over 30 on Rockwell scale.
Stops drill walking
The split point design gives accurate starting without the use of a center point.
Holds tighter holes
Split point design is self centering. This limits the normal oversize drilling characteristics.
The Ultra Bor drill bit has a thinner web and will substantially outperform cobalt drills in work hardening stainless steel applications. Ultra Bor drills are made of special hi-moly tool steel, which is much tougher than cobalt steel. The web on an Ultra Bor drill can be thinned considerably due to the toughness of the steel. Because of the thinner web, an Ultra Bor drill will penetrate stainless fast enough to continually cut beneath the chip which is hardening from deformation. This means the drill is cutting softer steel.

How to remove a broken bolt?
The best method for removal of stubborn / broken bolts is to drill them out, using a left hand drill bit and a reversible drill. (The good quality, variable speed, 3/8" models, which produce good torque at low RPM, work best.) As always with drilling holes, drill a small “pilot hole” first, then drill a larger hole through the broken fastener. (It’s easier to drill centered and straight by using a small drill first, but be careful not to break the small drill!) Most bolts come out before the hole drilling operation is finished. If it doesn't use a bolt extractor to finish the job.
